A Good thing.

A long, long time ago and what seems to be a galaxy far, far away, I took a chair I have to an upholster. I was trying to do it myself but I got frustrated and had a bit of a fit. I made a call and delivered said chair this past October to an upholster.

This is it. My sad little looking chair. It has moved from home to home and room to room. Everyone asking me "Can you please move that chair somewhere else".

For 6 months it was gone. I was promised it would be done in a couple of weeks, but as weeks went into months a funny thing happened. I calmly got mad and decided I'd practice upholstery on a few pieces. What I didn't think would happen is that I would like doing it as much as I do.
There is some kind of weird relaxation that takes over as I staple away on a piece.
I've got a lot to learn yet, but had the chair not been gone so long, I think I would have saved my pennies and had someone else upholster them for me.  Who knows maybe one day I'll feel brave enough to take in someone else's chair or sofa.

This is it now. I think its beautiful and they did a great job, but I'm thankful it took so long because it gave me the push out of the nest I needed.:)

Double Feature.

Today I finished two of the bigger projects for my green room. You'll remember my trundle bed, it got its final coat of beeswax to seal it.

The other project that got its finishing touches was this little dresser.

Once upon a time it looked like this

I had painted it green last year. Yes I said last year, and then it sat, because it was missing something.
Then I found some green paper about a month ago and liked how it looked with the dresser. I  decided to modge podge (glue) it on. If this is an idea you'd like to do, make sure you give it several coats to seal it, with either the modge podge or a varnish.

I really, really, really like this bed. Roger and Isaac did a fantastic job creating this for me. I really like the dresser and I really like the chair.

We found these little birds in Lucan and now the room has taken on a bit of a bird theme. I've got some other bird things waiting in the wings. hehe
Now that most of the big things are out of the way its time for the sewing to begin! I've got some other little lovelies just waiting to be put together.

Slowly but shirley, I will get it done.

You might want to say that line like Scarlet O'hara, just so you know how much I want to finish this room.
But picture me sitting in paint with handfuls of fabric instead of dirt.:)

Something about Yellow

Lately I've been drawn to the colour yellow. Truth is I've always been partial to yellow. My very first kitchen was painted a bright sunshine yellow. To me there was nothing like waking up and finding a bright, cheery kitchen when I walked down the stairs. Now, instead of painting the walls yellow, I'm looking to bring in some yellow in various ways.
When checking out different blogs for ideas and inspiration, I've come across some lovely examples.

Who wouldn't like this bed from everyday lovely. I imagine myself waking in this bed on a dreary day and having only happy thoughts.

Ot this beauty from Petticoat Junktion

If bright yellow isn't your thing how about this pale, pale creamy yellow desk I found on pinterest.

The other day I was lucky enough to find a can of yellow oops paint.

I can't wait to see where I'll use it. :)

A Weakness

I'm not a fan of clothes shopping, but we have a family wedding coming up and it required something new. So knowing exactly what I needed to complete my ensemble I bought these.

Royal Blue shoes. They do not match anything I'm wearing to the wedding, but I couldn't leave them behind. I'm also not an impulse buyer, but apparently when it comes to blues shoes I am. It took me about 2 seconds to try them on and walk out of the store with them.

You've got to admit, they are kind of cute.:)

The Bed.

We've been busy trying to design a trundle bed. I wanted a trundle bed in my re-designed "Little Girls Room", so I get two single beds, but one that will tuck neatly away for more play space during the day.

We started by decided from my stash what would be the best. We chose a head board and a foot board from two different beds.

Sorry its a little blurry. I must have been distracted by my handsome man.

Next we put our bed together.

I want the ends of the bed to be fairly high so it also has a daybed feel to it. Lots of measuring and pretending went on after this. We'd grabbed pieces of things lying around and put them up against it to see how we liked the look. It went through many different looks, but we finally decided and now there's no going back.

Here it is  being used as a work table. (I made that mess, because I needed another work table to work on another project.) You can kind of see how high I'd like the ends to be by the board that's propped up against it.

And this morning it got more paint.

Tucked underneath and on wheels is the other bed. The fronts for that bed are sitting on top. Down in my basement are the sides for the bed. And up at the Bruce Nuclear, is my husband working away and won't be home till the weekend to hopefully finish it. Until then, I've got some antiquing to do on it. :)
